“For as long as anyone can remember, upper-caste men in a village here in northern India preyed on young girls,” writes the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ columnist @nickkristof. Bitiya, pictured here, guessed that she was 13 years old when four upper-caste village men grabbed her as she worked in a field, stripped her and raped her. Supported by her family, Bitiya has fought to see her attackers prosecuted. The rape suspects offered her family a $15,000 settlement to drop the case, but she wouldn’t agree to it. “I want them in jail,” Bitiya told @nickkristof. “Then everyone watching will know that people can get punished for this.” @nickkristof took this photo in #Lucknow, India.
