Photo by Jeff Gusky @hiddenwwi | French soldier’s boot found on the Hartmannswillerkopf battlefield in the Vosges mountains. A century after WWI, remnants of the war are often found on the battlefields where they were left 100 years ago.

The Vosges front has many places that are relatively untouched and which anyone can visit. The battlefields are located in a beautiful part of France in the mountains of the Alsace. Picturesque mountain scenery, elegant dining, superb locally grown wines, friendly people and a pristine environment are the backdrop against which one can explore the remarkable remnants of The Great War. It’s ironic that amazing historical remnants can be found in such an idyllic destination.
