Strawberries, corn and 20 kinds of roses. This is gardening in New York. At the West Village apartment of Kerry Trueman and Matt Rosenberg, window boxes face south, east and north. The couple began gardening more than 20 years ago on the rooftop of their building. But these days, their gardens hang out the windows. “There are no woodchucks or deer, no Japanese beetles,” Kerry said. “And so many things grow so well in containers.” When the photographer Karsten Moran got this @nytfood assignment, he decided to photograph one of the container gardens from the outside. “Matt must have been on the same wavelength,” he said. “He pre-empted my question and provided access to one of his neighbors' roofs.” #urbangardening
