The Brazilian photographer @c_arantes is working on an ongoing project that documents the daily lives of young Afro-French women who are pushing to create their own world in #France. Unlike in the United States, where issues around race relations are openly debated, race has remained a relatively taboo topic in France. @c_arantes hopes to portray the quiet strength and belief of the Afro-French community there. “I wanted to know how it was for them to be living between these two cultures,” she told our photo blog, Lens. “They are questioning the principles of the French Republic, which is fraternity, equality, liberty and freedom.”
