“If New York is indeed a summer festival, it appeared to be a poorly attended one yesterday,” reported @ニューヨーク・タイムズ on a Monday in July 1972. “But it was a bonanza for beaches anywhere within stamina-range of the city.” In the midst of a heat wave, @ニューヨーク・タイムズ sent photographers out to capture those seeking weekend relief. The staff photographer Michael Evans got an elevated view of people looking for their cars in the parking lot at Jacob Riis Park in Queens, but his photo didn’t make the paper.
