#charmcontestwwb finalist @sincerelyjavier about his pre performance / audition routine : Pre-performance routines are a very sensitive part of preparing for a great show. Most professional artists prepare differently but one thing always remains the same — class. After my daily hour and a half morning class, I usually find something to snack on during the 15 to 30 minute break that gives me a boost of energy to start my long day of tech and take a traditional “Van Damme-esque" photo (same pose in every theatre for scrap booking). Typically, I’ll have a White Chocolate Chip Macadamia Nut CLIF Bar, I’m always happy to find these at the theatre, because I’m allergic to chocolate. I pair that with some water or tea provided by hospitality and take a seat on the floor always somewhere close to the stage. We’ll get a call to the stage for three hours of rehearsal/tech with the stage hands and then dinner is usually ready for us after in the green room. I will sit alone or with very few people because this is where my mental preparations begin for the impending performance. I try to eat something that will give me the best sustainable energy for the two hour show, where I can dance up to three ballets. For my body and my metabolism, I’ve found that pasta’s with chicken or salmon are always a plus. Since I burn through food very fast a hearty pasta always gives me a full tummy and energy for my show. Before leaving dinner, I’ll also grab a cookie for just before the show. Again, a major part of performing for me, is preparing my mind for what I intend to share on stage. At this time, I try to envision what I want to happen during each ballet and center myself. After dinner (time permitting), I find a nice comfy couch or floor space in the dressing room to call my mom then sleep. Sleeping helps me recoup my energy and allows my brain to relax. Occasionally, I can get 30 minutes in but 20 is usually the max. After nap time, the company usually take this siesta together, I head to wardrobe and grab three towels along with my costumes for the night. More ??
