Photo by @michaelchristopherbrown. Hundreds of LRA defection fliers thrown by U.S. Special Forces operations soldiers float from a helicopter towards the jungle canopy of northern D.R.C. (Congo). Over the past several years, the U.S. military, partnered with the NGO Invisible Children, has dropped hundreds of thousands of leaflets while utilizing loudspeaker pro-defection messages in an effort to encourage defections from the LRA, a terrorist group accused of widespread human rights violations, including murder, abduction, mutilation, child-sex slavery and forcing children to participate in hostilities. Most of the leaflets dropped have showcased former LRA members who deserted from the rebel group and urged their former colleagues to do the same.
