@robertClarkphoto 'Wolf to Woof’ was the best title of any @natgeo story I have worked on, (followed closely by “was Darwin Wrong). One of the great things about working for the Geographic is the time that you can think about stories, come up with a good idea, and try to shoot the picture that you have in your mind’s eye, as well as the time to make it happen. It was all #KurtMutchler’s idea, (another part of working for the Geographic that is wonderful is that the talented photo editors make all the photographer’s look better.) So how would you get these two in the same picture without the #wolf eating the #maltese? The man for the job would be #DougSeus. Seus and his wife Lynn are amazing animal trainers, including Bart, the #brownbear seen in many movies of the last century. The Seus’ decided to raised a wolf pup and a maltese puppy to gather for a year to make the cover happen. Fast forward one year -- We were at the Sues facility and started our efforts, the wolf was jumpy but paid attention to Doug. As in cartoons the smaller dog seem to be in charge and the wolf took his clues from the Maltese. If the Maltese was calm, then wolf would hold still for a few frames. I set up my lights and after two days #KurtMutchler and I were pretty certain I had shot a picture that would make a good cover. Remember this was pre-digital so we had to wait a few days to see the film. Since the focus of the article was on the #evolution of Dogs, we used the next dog to evolve, #Aibo, a #robotic dog produced by #Sony. The Sues’s also founded @VitalGround through the purchase of 240 acres in prime #GrizzlyBear habitat adjourning protected land in the PineButtePreserve on Montana’s eastern from of the Rockies. They are a great organization, check them out at vital ground.org #Robot #Dogs #DogsofInstagram #Wolf #wolves #Maltese @thephotosociety @InstituteArtist
