The #Anole is a genus of #iguania that are found in the #GreaterAntilles islands of Jamaica, Cuba, Hispaniola and Puerto Rico. The Anole is a simple species relative to other reptiles, having developed into 4 separate species that by chance are all very similar in their assemblages, though each species is adapted to the particularities of the island on which it developed. The adaptive differences between geographic regions separated by some obstacle is known as #islandbioevolution.

The particularly interesting fact about #anoles is in a practice known as ecomorphological adaptation; the habitats of each species are similar enough that the overall morphological differences between each species are slight though indicate much about each species: shorter legs on twig #ecomorphs and longer legs on the Anole that spent more time on trunks. This means that each subspecies of the #anole is adapted to the place they spend the most time in, or each microhabitat that they need to adapt to.

The Anole is also the first reptile whose genome has been successfully sequenced in full.
