Cross static lunges on smith machine are very beneficial to shape up and lift up your glutes.
Just make sure you lift the bar with your back leg and squeeze it on top as much as you can. If lean forward to much and lift up the weight with front leg you are working your quads more than glutes. It all depend what are you trying to develop at performing this exercise.
I always tell my clients, when you working out always keep in mind with muscle you are targeting during performing exercise and try to feel it with every rep. This is not about to lift heavy, this is about lift smart and get results.
