I was delighted to open the Jurong Rock Caverns (JRC) today. It is Southeast Asia’s first underground facility for storing liquid hydrocarbons. By going deep under the seabed, we freed up 60 hectares of surface land, enough for six petrochemical plants.
With technology, ingenuity, determination, we can create new space for ourselves.
Fun facts: The JRC caverns are carved out of solid rock 130m beneath the seabed. Each is as high as a 9-storey building! – LHL (MCI Photo by Terence Tan)
