Male gorilla Baraka is the figure head of our gorilla troop! Weighing in at 375 pounds, this silverback is the leader and father-figure of the National Zoo’s band of western lowland gorillas. In 2009 Kibibi, our youngest gorilla was born here at the National Zoo and can be seen at the Great Ape exhibit with her family – including Baraka. Just like lots of other male silverbacks, Baraka is often in the middle of the group and likes to be where he can see and keep tabs on all of the others gorillas.
