Black-footed ferret season is in full swing at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute! 24 ferret kits have been born so far, and 10 more ferret mothers are due in the next few weeks. (2 were bred with artificial insemination). Black-footed ferrets were thought extinct in the 1980s, and all living black-footed ferrets descended from 18 survivors. Today, more than 640 black-footed ferret kits have been born at SCBI, many of which have gone on to be reintroduced in the American West. ‪#‎WeSaveSpecies.
