Migrant worker and rag and bone man, Mr Zhang, 63 years old, originally from Zhumadian in Henan province. He has been in Beijing for over a decade, collecting waste paper, cardboard and plastic to sell to recyclers. He buys each kilogram of cardboard for 60 mao (cents) and sells it for 80 cents. He buys each of the giant plastic oil bottles for 80 cents and sells them for 1 yuan, making a profit of 20 cents each. He hauls the waste material from the posh Golden Treasures (Jinbao) street in downtown Beijing to the eastern outskirts on his motorised tricycle daily.
