As dusk falls in downtown Beijing, a young man seems happy to head home, walking towards a bus stop. As the capital, Beijing is a magnet for migrants from all over the country, white collar or blue collar. For a young Chinese to have "made it" in Beijing is a great source of pride for his family back home in the provinces. Even those who don't exactly make it big and live in squalid conditions in the capital often feel they cannot go back to their hometowns for fear of loss of "face".
