That some athletes were taking banned substances. Something that really upsets and frustrates me, it’s just so unfair. But I try not to focus on it too much & continue to train hard & do all I can to beat the cheats. I have been in many races over the years where later on you would find out there was a drug cheat ahead of you. But this race was the first global championship where I have been upgraded to a medal position because of it. I found out on Tuesday night that not only was the winner of the World Uni 1500m a drug cheat (she had been banned in 2016) but 2nd place was also recently banned, both dating back to 2013 & their results annulled over that time. My main focus at the World Universities had been the 800m & I had run 3 rounds in 3 days to come 4th in the final in a PB at the time of 2:00.03 which qualified me for the 2013 World Champs the following month! I was over the moon. The 1500m heat was the next morning and I remember being so tired for it while warming up! But I managed to just qualify through to the final, in a next fastest time spot- as it was first 3 in each heat and the next 4 best times overall- I was 6th in my heat. I then had a day off before the 1500m final. I felt more recovered by the final and had nothing to loose- so I got out there and ran as fast as I could & ended up 5th in 4:11.72, a PB at the time! I never thought when I crossed that line that I was actually a bronze medallist! Thankfully they keep drug testing samples for many years after a sample & that testing is getting better at detection. The World University Games have a very special place in my heart, especially after winning the 2015 World University 800m title, 2 years after Kazan! I’m stoked that now I am a gold & bronze medallist! I’m not sure if I’ll ever get the medal, but it will be a race I’ll never forget! Thank you Jesus!
