Photos by @andrea_frazzetta | After studying Monte Bianco (Mont Blanc)—the highest mountain in Italy—my son decided he wanted to see it. We went for his birthday. The closest access point to the summit (4,810 meters, or 15,800 ft) is at an altitude of 3,466 meters (11,400 ft), a distance we covered in a few minutes thanks to a trip on a cable car. I’m not typically a fan of shortcuts, but this mode allows many people who might not ordinarily been able to do so to have the inspirational experience of finding themselves facing an unparalleled landscape. As a father, I hope my son will never forget the biting winds on his face, the reflection of light on the snow, the dip in his heart at the sight of the clouds swirling around the peak.
