Photo by @sofia_jaramillo5 | A mountain biker pushes her bike up a particularly steep section of trail during a bikepacking trip in Utah’s San Rafael Swell. For three days we biked along this distinct geological area permeated by sharp, sudden upthrusts of rock that formed 40 to 70 million years ago. Geologic features from the Permian to Cretaceous periods, native endangered plants like the San Rafael cactus, and Native American pictographs and petroglyphs can all be seen in this unique area.
