In an old house in Paris…to The Carlyle Hotel in New York City, Ludwig Bemelmans’ Madeline character continues to capture hearts more than 80 years after her debut. Sotheby’s @hallella and @rosewoodthecarlyle’s Marlene Poynder explain the author and illustrator’s journey from arriving in New York in 1918 to living in the historic New York hotel while finishing the masterpiece murals inside what would become @bemelmansbar.
