Auction records were breaking left and right for the jewelry market today at #SothebysNewYork, with two incredible stones selling for over $30 million in the same sale—a first in auction history.

First among them was the extraordinary Estrela de Fura: 55.22’—a 55.22 carat ruby, which sold for an astounding $34.8 million ($630,288 per carat) and established a new world auction record not just for a ruby, but also for any colored gemstone ever sold at auction.
