Palouse Falls left me speechless with its stunning and unique landscape. As I worked to capture its beauty in my picture, I searched for a composition that would convey both the story of the massive successive lava flows that blanketed much of eastern Oregon and Washington (known as the Columbia River flood basalts), as well as the enormous ice age flood that carved out the basin that now houses Palouse Falls. After exploring the park for around two hours and experimenting with different lenses, I discovered a high spot above the falls that allowed me to capture the sweeping river and cascading water.
