Video by @クリス・バーカード | After significant rainfall in California’s 2022-23 winter, which harked back to record-setting precipitation in 1982-83, an eruption of wildflowers now paints the hills with color, seen here near Carrizo Planes. The normally desolate landscape provides an unsuspecting home for wildflower seeds, which lie dormant in the arid climate until they’re awakened by water in an excessively wet season. Documenting this phenomenon for @ナショナルジオグラフィック in my own backyard brings a special sense of ownership and excitement to share the landscapes that mean so much to me.
