Photo by @gretarybus | William Robbins, a volunteer at the Historic Yates Mill County Park in Wake County, North Carolina, checks the water-powered mechanisms of the gristmill. Every third Saturday, the park hosts live demonstrations, and historical reenactments show how corn was processed as far back as 1756. I met a volunteer in a soft gingham dress and bonnet typical of the 18th century, and Robbins showed me and other visitors how quickly the mill turned corn into a fine cornmeal. Just a few miles south of Raleigh, the park spans 174 acres (70 hectares) and includes gardens, exhibits, walking trails, fishing, and animal habitat. | Uncover over 200 years of history preserved in the North Carolina Piedmont. Authentic landmarks like the Yates Mill County Park are anything but traditional for any traveler to experience.
