A microscopic animal called Foraminifera, produces a red pigment on the surrounding coral reefs which then mixes with the sand as it breaks down. The colour can vary depending on the amount of coral present and maybe very faint pink, orange/pink or red/pink. The best way to see this beach is traveling on a live aboard from Labuan Bajo a short flight from Bali or Jakarta.
