Another Wiles family Christmas on the books! As always, Harlow put herself in charge of cookies and milk for Santa, which included the most adorable request to wear a mask when he came inside. She also wrote a note for Frankie saying that she is a good puppy and deserves a treat. And she volunteered to read ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas to everyone before bed, which was a pretty big deal. I am so proud of how her confidence in reading and writing is growing. The other notable part of our Christmas was MAZZY, who had the new role of keeping the magic alive. After “the incident” and “the talk,” MAZZY got to work by pulling up the Santa tracker online, calling the kids over and keeping them updated all night. After they went to bed, she set up her camera and somehow managed to capture a photo that looks like it might be Santa leaving presents under the tree 😱 And this morning, there was a surprise drawing from Santa where the cookies had been. “Did you draw this?” Harlow asked me. “Nope. I swear. I did not. I’ve never even seen it before.” That was the truth. I have more to say about Mazzy’s discovery (which I was ready for) and a scarily close call with Harlow (which almost broke my heart.) It all got me thinking about what Christmas will mean to my family beyond the Santa years. It’s still a new holiday for us and maybe the true meaning (like they say in all the movies!!!) is something we still need to learn.
