Ilana Wilesさんのインスタグラム写真 - (Ilana WilesInstagram)「Before we left the city for winter break, we had one last thing to do— give our holiday gift to Kevin, a man Harlow and I often pass on our walk to school, who is homeless. Kevin is always very nice to us and Harlow has a desire to help him, so we have given him food when we can, clean masks and also a sweater and blanket when he told us he needed something to keep warm. I posted about it a few weeks ago and someone in the comments asked if they could contribute. That comment led to $1800 being donated, which is way more than I was expecting when I responded with my Venmo. There was some debate under my last post about how I could or should help Kevin with this money. We decided to give him half in cash before the holidays and will give him the second half when we get back into the city. I’ve communicated with an organization that helps the homeless to determine if that second half should be given in cash, gift cards or something else. They told me to ask him what he prefers. Everyone I’ve told this story asks what Kevin’s reaction was to receiving the $900. The answer is that he was incredibly thankful when we handed him the envelope, but he did not open it in front of us, which is, of course, the polite thing to do. I’m sure it would have felt good to see his response (and also supremely awkward) but that was not the point of the gift. I made sure he knew it was a gift from a group of us, which is also what I wrote in the card. Then we wished him a happy holiday and left him to open it on his own. We drove to the house that night so we have not seen him since, but my wish is that he is spending Christmas somewhere safe and that the money only helps him and brings him no harm. I wanted to thank everyone again for your generosity. Not only did you do something very kind for a stranger, you showed an 8yo that one person’s kindness can inspire a community. That is a priceless gift.」12月24日 8時14分 - mommyshorts
