Pt 2 on Cleva: Dilla was working w @CherokeeTheArtist & gave her this beat in which he chopped up the James Brown #ESCAPEism drums (the same drums from BBD “Poison”) & blew my mind programming the rhythm like he was #JohnJaboStarks of the JBs (Jabo put ghost note emphasis on snare AND his kick. Like his kick was sometimes a second hi hat w these silent 8th note patterns w different dynamics. I was obsessed with this at the time & after 4 years of Voodoo drumming I was trying to figure out what was my 2000 style gonna be. So this album was me transitioning to ideas I’d develop more on future albums

-Hey Sugah is one of many jawns I wish I was drumming on ☹️ but I was in the middle of touring with D’Angelo & E was also jelling with her Dallas musicians as her core unit. But I love this interlude.
