If you were a Philadelphian born at LEAST 40 years ago you’ve heard of MOVE. It’s impossible to not have heard of this story. I lived on #OsageAve for the first 25 years of my life 10 blocks away from the 1985 bombing/massacre. As a 14 year old in the 80s you heard authority figures & adults in suits and you pretty much took their word for whatever they said (they as in your family/neighbors/teachers/newspeople/politicians)—-because I mean why would anyone wanna lie and spread any misinformation in America.....right? (😡😡😡😡) even back then during that period something never sat right with me. I don’t care how much my older extended family members called em heathens. I don’t care how much government officials screamed on news clips. Something wasn’t right.
When @TheRoots were asked to participate in this doc they asked me to tell them “everything I heard about MOVE” first thing they blew my mind with was this doc had NOTHING to do with #OsageAveBombing (!!!?) before Osage.....in 1977 there was #PoweltonVillage ironically now a beautiful gentrified section of #WestPhilly near @drexeluniv the seed of the 85 bombing starts in 1977. You think living in this era was tough imagine life under the unbearable racism that was the #FrankRizzo era (not Jerky Boys but the mayor) I lived through ALL that ish. This is NOT a Philadelphia Story. This is an American Story. I lived through this & I was mind blown in what I DIDN’T know.
