Hi there, it’s @ginaclyne & @jackieamezquita here! Today is Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos), and @ambosproject would like to honor the lives of those who have transcended by sharing a collaborative artist performance entitled “96 Deaths”.

During our time in Arizona, our team met with artist Glenn Weyant. Since 2006, Glenn has been amplifying the American Border Wall along the Southern Arizona / Northern Sonora dividing line. Utilizing a cello bow and various percussion pieces, Glenn transforms the wall structure into an instrument, and performs for audiences of Mexican nationals, American nationals, Border Patrol agents, Ranchers, Vigilantes, Natives, Cows, Coyotes, Rocks, Cactus and Snakes.

On September 1, 2017, the United States Border Wall in Sasabe, Arizona was struck 96 times to honor the life of every man, woman, and child who died while crossing the Southern Arizona desert since January 1, 2017.

This performance was an interpretation of the score Until There Are No More Deaths, an original percussion piece written by Glenn Weyant, for border walls wherever they exist.

The work was performed by members of @ambosproject. Percussion: @tanyaaguiniga , @dioo_ , @stellamarine and @cecilliiia ; Reader: @jackieamezquita, and Glenn Weyant.

As of September 2020 (3 years since our performance), 443 bodies have been found in the state of Arizona alone.
