Photo by @CarltonWard / An airboat piloted by Betty Osceola sets out before sunrise onto the waters of her Miccosukee tribal lands. Miccosukee, like the Seminole, are descendants of Creek Nation who survived colonial and U.S. persecution by living on small camps on tree islands deep in Florida's Everglades. The River of Grass is still at the center of life and traditions for the Miccosukee Tribe of Florida, where their airboat and tour operations provide unique Everglades experiences to tourists from around the world.

This story is part of a #LastWildPlaces partnership with @insidenatgeo and @pathofthepanther, working to inspire protection of the #FloridaWildlifeCorridor. Please follow @carltonward for more. #Miccosukee #FloridaWild #KeepFLWild
