The gigantic, powerful feet of an adult ostrich give a good idea of their kinship with the dinosaurs.

Ostriches on farms are kept in many ways just like chickens, either for the production of meat or to produce as many eggs as possible. For the latter purpose ostriches are kept in family groups of one male and two or three females. The eggs are regularly taken away from them, causing the ostriches to keep laying new eggs for months. These eggs are either hatched in incubators or sold for consumption.
Only at the end of the season the parents may keep their eggs, complete a clutch and hatch the eggs themselves.
The chicks in the picture are one or two days old.
