We had gloomy, overcast, and rainy weather for the whole month, with only three or four partly sunny days. I really dislike shooting in rain, but I have to admit that I enjoyed some of the stormy cloud formations we witnessed—even though, by the end, I was desperate for some warm sunset or sunrise colors. I’ve just finished going through the 3,332 images of icebergs I shot, and I found some wonderful blue gems! Iceberg photography is actually better under an overcast sky, as the clouds act as a huge diffuser filter. That dramatically reduces the dynamic range in the image because it eliminates strong shadows and bright highlights and enhances the blues of the ice at the same time.
