Masterpiece in miniature: This unique alabaster sculpture by Dame Barbara Hepworth - one of the most important female artists of the 20th century - dates to 1962. Since its creation, it has only ever been exhibited once, at the Tate in London in 1968, and has been in a private collection in the US for almost half a century.

The original owner of the luminous carving was Dominique de Grunne, to whom Hepworth gifted the work soon after it was made. A charming Roman Catholic priest at Oxford University in the 1950s, de Grunne later he became an inveterate traveller and collector.

'Small Form (November)' will make its auction debut as part of our Modern & Post-War British Art sale, online from 10-17 November, with a public exhibition in our London galleries from 13 November.
