Marvin Gaye makes everything feel better especially after a long week. True story: many moons ago I lived in Philly, a city I fell in love and one who loved right me back, and where I thought I’d live forever. It was nearing the end of summertime and like I always do, was holding onto every last savoring remnant of its warmth and sun. We were in Rittenhouse Park one Sunday early in the afternoon and I placed my boombox right in the middle of the park and put on this very song (the original longer version) by Marvin. My friend and I moved back and sat on a bench watching people stroll by, and every last person from the moment they entered Marvin Gaye’s magic, paused and smiled like a wave of nostalgia and joy was washing over them, and then proceeded to walk on with a little more bounce in their step. A group of teenagers walked by too, and stopped, and in synchronized harmony started dancing. I swear some of the most talented, artistic and creative prodigies are hidden in the souls of the local everyday life in this city. Every time I hear Got To Give It Up, I think back to that day and the joy experienced in those moments spring back up and wash right over. Some things truly are eternal and for this I am so grateful. It has been a long week, yes. But I am heading into the weekend with a little Marvin and sunshine now. Wishing you all the same too. Happy Friday, everyone. ☀️
