"There was something special about his work: he managed to reconcile the world of fashion, pop imagery and the more traditional and neoclassical aesthetics in a single image. That is precisely why his photographs communicate something to so many different people." told us @CarlaSozzani, who hosted many Helmut Newton exhibitions over the years in her Milanese gallery. "We had a great relationship. A few years ago, his wife June sent me the Alberta Ferretti campaign ‘making of’ video - our first work together. What struck me in this shoot was first of all Helmut’s playful and sweet character: he often joked, jumped around, had fun like a child. But what was also - and perhaps above all - striking was the essentiality of the equipment used: today photographers are surrounded by dozens of people. On that day it was just him, his assistant, me and an umbrella. He didn’t need anything else and this was also where his genius laid."
