Pictured here against the backdrop of an opulent Ottoman silk velvet and silver metal thread panel, designed with tulips, carnations and hyacinths, crafted in the 16th/17th century. Both works will be offered at auction in London on 27 October, to benefit the LA Mayer Museum for Islamic Art. Proceeds from the sale will help ensure the long-term future of the museum (a privately funded entity), while at the same time allowing for further development of key initiatives and programmes around the promotion of inter-cultural dialogue – something that has long been key to the museum’s mission and that features large in its founding principles.
