Murals have such a rich history - connecting communities, politics, and art. It’s also a form of public art that can be found almost anywhere. They serve as a living history. A takeover based just on murals would be a real deep dive! For today, I am thinking about how murals have responded to Black Lives Matter and the social justice movement. @urbanartmapping is a free, public digital database documenting street art from around the world. You can browse more than 1,000 images and submit your own.
Pictured here is work by @xochilt.art image, which grabbed my attention right away. I wish I could articulate specifically how this touched me, as a mother, but it’s too difficult. So instead, I’ll let the art speak for itself.
