When I first began thinking of this post, I didn’t realize it would be going up on September 11, and it’s completely changed the way I look at it. 19 years ago today the view of Downtown Manhattan looked quite different as smoke rose into a sky of uncertainty and countless lives were changed forever. Even almost two decades later, I can remember so much of the day with perfect clarity - including looking back at this view as my brother and walked home across the 59th Street Bridge, knowing life in New York City would not be the same. Though much has changed, we’re yet again in a period of upheaval with a challenge ahead of us. In 2001, it was a horrifying day in which afterward we began to attempt to rebuild and put ourselves back together. Now, we have no idea what lies ahead and we are in a state of suspended animation of anxiety. However, what remains the same is the ability New Yorkers have to find creative ways of coming together in the most difficult of moments. Who would have ever imagined we’d all be at our windows clapping, whooping, and ringing bells at 7pm for so many months? Who would have imagined we’d be protesting in masks, on bicycles, in cars - even on surfboards? And now with #Reverberation, we have another creative way to be together and add our own sounds to the city’s soundtrack. As I stood watching my son ringing one of @davinasemo’s bells, in my heart, I hoped he was helping ring in a new, reimagined era. - @nogophoto」9月11日 22時26分 - designsponge
