While the ancient Rey in the southern end of the city dates back to 6000 B.C., the elevated northern end reaching the Elburz Mountains is mainly modern constructions, including the 435-meter (1,427-foot) Milad Tower, which has a viewing platform to see Tehran if the air is not too polluted.
