Soups on! Richard Pettibone is a pioneer of Appropriation Art. In 1964, the then Los Angeles-based Pettibone began making copies of artworks by contemporary artists, including Marcel Duchamp, Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, whose work he saw reproduced in the pages of Artforum magazine. Pettibone’s painting were miniature, as their size was not based on the actual artworks, but rather on the printed image. Since those yearly years, this miniature scale has become the most iconic characteristic of Pettibone’s work. These Warhol-inspired pieces and more are available for immediate purchase from @castelligallery through Sotheby’s Gallery Network, our buy-now marketplace for contemporary art.
