When we go through tough times (I’ve recently been through a breakup) food is a major component in how we are able to get through it. Some people turn to comfort food to make themselves feel momentarily better - chocolate, ice cream, cookies - but this in turn leads to sugar crashes, a lack of energy and heightened mood swings which in turn prolongs the suffering. Personally my appetite shuts off when I’m stressed, it feels like my body has gone into defence mode and focuses all of its energy on protecting my organs rather than eating or sleeping - it’s called fight or flight mode and is an instinct that we all have but can’t control. If you’re unable to eat you become weak, you can’t think straight and struggle to do anything at all, you basically turn into a ghost. We all deal with things in different ways at different paces and that’s ok because that’s what makes us human. I love healthy food and always have, I also love my body and I know that it loves me too but my heart needs to heal and find peace. Sometimes a broken heart can do more to you on the inside than any amount of injury you can see on the outside. Please be kind to others, you never know what they are going through nor how many emotional scars they carry from the past into the present.
