You may notice in my posts that I hardly ever wear makeup and almost never put on mascara, which kind of makes it look like I have no eyelashes as I’m a natural blonde so my hair is very fair, but I don’t find it comfortable so oh well! I’ve just got back from the post office to collect my mail and went out today without any makeup on at all, something even 10yrs ago I wouldn’t have had the confidence to do. I always felt that a bare face was a face that was undressed because society tells us to look beautiful we must be glamourous, put on lipstick and false eyelashes, cover our blemishes and imperfections and look smoother and prettier than the imperfect vision that we see when we wake up. We then feel the need to cover our faces with makeup, to mask our natural appearance in favour of something more acceptable because everybody else does and if we don’t then we feel outcast and unattractive which shouldn’t be the case. As a teen and young woman I would wake up and put on my makeup immediately, even sleeping in makeup beside boyfriends so as not to show my bare skin. Now the thought of sleeping in makeup makes me feel sick and I see that mentally and emotionally that was a very unhealthy way to live! As I’ve grown I have totally changed the way that I look at beauty; makeup doesn’t make you any more or less beautiful if you don’t accept yourself for who you are, YOU are what makes you beautiful. Now I feel special when I wear makeup because it’s a treat for me, not an everyday occurrence or necessity anymore. It doesn’t rule my life, it doesn’t give me validation, I’m already happy without it. Please do not rely on outside influences to accept yourself or love your appearance, start from within and find peace in who you are. We are all human, we are all perfectly imperfect and unique.
