ベスト・コーストさんのインスタグラム写真 - (ベスト・コーストInstagram)「Today, thanks to Twitter, I discovered a lot of people have always thought the lyrics to “Boyfriend“ were “I wish SHE was my boyfriend” which made me finally decide to say this ... ⁣ ⁣ If you’ve seen us play live over the last few years you’re probably familiar with my “i hate this song” speech that I always give before we play Boyfriend. I never say why but here’s why: this song is about a co-dependent, addictive, unhealthy obsession with someone. As a straight white woman who has written MANY songs about my unhealthy patterns in heterosexual relationships over the last decade, I haven’t exactly challenged the heteronormative culture we live in. And so, every time I sing “Boyfriend” in particular, I am reminded of this and also my own history with (at times) toxic, co-dependency in romantic relationships. ⁣ ⁣ I’ll never “retire” this song for as long as BC exists because it’s meaning has changed over the years and today I want to make that official. Y’all have loved this song since day one and I am so grateful for that. It’s yours now. Honestly, it always has been. No matter what ANY of my lyrics are ACTUALLY about, i’ve always wanted them to be open to interpretation by y’all, the listener. ⁣ ⁣ This song is about to turn TEN years old (jeeeeeeze I’m old) and SO, on this Pride day in 2020 I’m here to officially hand this song over to the LGBTQ+ community and say, I love you, i will always stand with you, and I hope he/she/they/them - whoever the fuck you wish was your “boyfriend” - TREATS YOU FUCKING RIGHT! ⁣ ⁣ Happy Pride ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜💖🤎🤍」6月15日 4時33分 - best_coast
