Like many dancers I feel so humbled to do what I love for work, a feeling I hold on to now in these times of crisis. I think often of those who are risking so much to help others right now and sometimes that can make my contribution seem insignificant. However I strongly believe that while artists are not physically saving lives we cannot ignore the importance of our mental health and I believe that dance is medicine for the soul. People are clinging to art to inspire them and lift them up and I am amazed at the ways we have adapted to connect with each other, to teach, to learn, to dance, to express ourselves, even when the only way is through a screen. I am worried for the future of live theatre though. The Co-Vid 19 pandemic has seen theatres take a devastating loss to their incomes and its uncertain how and if they will ever recover. I am joining the #ourworldwithout campaign to ask the UK government to urgently fund the creative industry so that our world after Corona will not be without dance or live theatre. We have all been affected by this global crisis, some so much more than others.
