エミリー・ハリントンさんのインスタグラム写真 - (エミリー・ハリントンInstagram)「#RequiredRewind La Esfinge, Cordillera Blanca, Peru 2019 In honor of my dear friend and ultimate badass queen @myshellparker’s birthday 🎂 I’m throwing it all the way back to last August when we climbed The Original 1985 Route on La Esfinge in 🇵🇪. 2000ft granite big wall at 17,000ft with pitches up to 5.10R? Seriously nbd for a pro skier 😆 Michelle flashed her hardest trad lead ever on a spicy 5.10 R pitch in the middle of the wall during our ascent. She asked me what the grade was and if she should lead it. “Ummmm I’m not sure actually maybe 5.8 or 5.9?” I replied 😂. She racked up and never faltered once - it was an amazing display of how the mental strength acquired during years of perfecting one athletic art form (big mountain skiing) can translate into another with the proper focus, belief, and desire. What a legend! We climbed the route in a single 10.5 hour push and about 16 hours round trip. Many parties choose to sleep on the wall; we nervously watched a party epic the night before we climbed and take around 26 hours, their lights bobbling around in space for hours high on the wall. But we chose to try for the in a day ascent because even though it was Michelle’s first big wall experience who wants to bivy at 17,000ft in the winter when they don’t have to!?
