My Sicilian grandfather always told me that the definition of happiness for him was "having a window view on the sea." I can't help thinking about him every time I visit a place like this. Located in the middle of the Tyrrhenian Sea north of the Sicilian coast, Stromboli is a small island dominated by one of the most active volcanoes in the world. I recently photographed the island for a story on what it’s like to live in the shadow of an active volcano, now on the National Geographic website.
