For our next #SothebysOutofOffice, we’re heading to the home of one of Britain’s most famous sculptors, Barbara Hepworth ⛏

Sotheby’s Head of Modern & Contemporary African Art @hannah_o_really took a trip to The Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden in St Ives. Hepworth first came to live in Cornwall with her husband Ben Nicholson and their young family at the outbreak of war in 1939. She lived and worked in Trewyn Studios – now the Barbara Hepworth Museum – from 1949 until her death in 1975.

Hepworth’s family opened the museum in 1976, after the wishes expressed in her will. Containing the largest collection of the artist’s works, the Museum has been run by @テート・ギャラリー since 1980.

damianfairbrotherjones I’m in St Ives now and am going again later this week, it’s a fantastic place to visit. The first two photos are of the original workshop and have been kept as they were. There’s a beautiful garden, the largest green space in St Ives, with lots of original bronze sculptures and the summer house where Hepworth worked, it’s magical 👍
