thephotosocietyさんのインスタグラム写真 - (thephotosocietyInstagram)「Photograph by @andyparkinsonphoto/@thephotosociety Mountain hare vogueing – During the 5 weeks earlier this year that @kevmorgans and I were up in Scotland the weather to be fair was a bit rubbish. Unseasonally warm the complete absence of snow from the hillsides, or the patchy nature of it, made capturing the standard of images that we both seek incredibly difficult. Fortunately we knew a few friendly hares by the name of Lady and Grouse though of the two Lady was definitely the most active. For Grouse any kind of movement was really quite unusual so how she hadn’t already been nailed by a golden eagle I’ll never know, especially given that she was such a beautifully striking white colour. Lady on the other hand, though incredibly confiding much like Grouse, often like to hang out in a damp, peaty ditch so whilst getting close was never an issue capturing a half decent image usually was. On this occasion though we were fortunate that she had decided, whilst still in her peaty ditch, to sit upon a small patch of snow. This was all that we needed to be able use the reflected light bouncing off the snow to give Lady’s fur a wonderfully even tone, free from shadows. We also both clocked then when Lady groomed she would occasionally bring both paws up over her face as she did so, thereby enabling us both to be able to produce so unique portraits, a bit different form the norm. Whenever I shoot like this I always ratchet up the ISO on my camera, most likely to about 1600-3200, thereby allowing me increase the depth of field and bringing the whole of Lady into sharp focus. Otherwise it would be incredibly difficult at such close quarters to be able to keep my focussing point on her eye.
