Photo by @catherinekarnow // The region of Lost Palaces - Chettinad in South India is filled with imposing, sometimes crumbling mansions originally built by prosperous 19th-century Indian traders to show off their wealth. The palatial houses, measuring anywhere between 1,900 and 6500 square metres were mostly built between the early 1800s and the 1940s. The villas are filled with treasures such as Bohemian chandeliers, Italian marble, Burmese teak, Belgian mirrors, and priceless antiques. The area has yet to be recognised by Unesco as a World Heritage Site, and mansions are being torn down, left neglected, or sometimes bought up and repainted gaudy colors. [BIHAKUEN]UVシールド(UVShield)

kannan.p.samy I have been to some of the palatial houses. Amazing. There is a history behind why they were built there. History goes that the merchant community's houses were destroyed earlier in a flood and so they moved, built in a dry area and with raised foundation. A great testimony of dravidian architecture. Similar to the temples of dravidian style which are always builtnon raised platforms.The community are also called nagarathaar(rough translation: city dwellers). You should show pics of the large locks and keys!! I would love to join you in your workshop.
