Kuril Islands day 4: Sunrise shines on the small ridge where we made camp on the edge of the Onekatan volcano. Nowhere on this island is protected from the wind. In fact the cold volcanic lake that acts as a mote around the volcanic cone creates an inversion and sucks the clouds over the rim. Lenticular clouds formed all day as we watched clouds move like a swift river over the landscape. We pushed through the hike with 50-80lb packs of camera gear & shot our way through the sunset & crescent moon into night. Sleeping didn’t seem like an option when our Russian team said this was the best conditions that they have ever seen here.

lajunius Ohhh so that’s how people get the perfect lighting. They literally camp there and wake up for the best lighting. Here I am doing standard day hikes getting and getting mid day sun like a pleb
